Morning Pages | 1 January 2025
Happy new year, dear readers!
My first writing session of the year got a little businessy. I'm no clearer after writing, or maybe just a little. When does one admit defeat and quit? Or improve the systems and make it work?
And yes, CONNECTION. I'd like to keep that in mind each day as I go about my life—connection to family, connection to friends, connection to humanity, connection to myself, connection to God. Maybe I could include a sentence or two about connection when I write my pages. That's a nice idea.
New reading group
As it's 1 January, I should post about my reading group for Historathon 2025 that starts today. All the info is here:
I'm excited to get started with this project.
Humanities reading group
I read Aristotle's Poetics yesterday as part of my Humanities reading group and enjoyed it. A nice short read to close out the year. Or, so I thought. I ended up reading Notebook by Tom Cox, finishing it fifteen minutes before the bells rang in the new year, so I got back up in time to come through and sit with my wife and watch the London fireworks on TV. The other Aristotle book for the Humanities group was The Nicomachean Ethics. I supplemented that by reading Jared Henderson's posts on the book and that helped. I hope to write something up about the two Aristotle books by the end of the week.
In January I will be reading Plato's Symposium and Herodotus: The Histories: Books 1, 6-8. Join me over on my Substack if you'd like to read these along with me.
