I found myself pondering the idea of whether medication could provide a solution for me. It's something I keep coming back to and then discarding, mainly because of my fear of becoming dependent on medication. Without going into it too much here, I spent many years relying first on alcohol, and then opioids, without really understanding why. Now that I'm thinking about the interplay between autism and ADHD, it has me wondering whether these are the issues that I was using drugs and alcohol to find relief from. I could be barking up the wrong tree, but I could also be onto something that warrants further exploration.
After I finished writing, I found the courage to pick up the phone and make an appointment with my doctor. I'm curious to see where this leads.
